Winter compote is a childhood flavour for me… It is traditionally prepared at Christmas and is an important part of the Polish Christmas table. It’s a shame that people have forgotten this wonderful drink a little and don’t prepare it too often… To get you into a nice, christmas mood, I have prepared a recipe for a delicious compote of apples, pears, oranges and cranberries with the addition of cinnamon, a pinch of cloves and honey… It is warming, wonderfully aromatic and has a beautiful red-orange colour… Besides, not everyone is really a fan of dried fruit compote, which is traditionally prepared in Polish households, so my compote can be a really great alternative to it.

Winter compote recipe -Christmas compote
Ingredients
2.5 litres of water
5 apples
4 oranges
3 pears
150 – 200 g cranberries (fresh or frozen)
2 cinnamon sticks
a few cloves
honey
Directions
- Bring a large pan of water to the boil and add the cored and sliced fruit (do not peel!): quartered apples and thickly sliced oranges (peeled). Bring to the boil and then add the pears, first quartered and then cut into larger cubes, and the cranberries. Cook the compote for a further 10 minutes.
- After this time, turn off the heat and allow the compote to cool well so that the flavours combine. Only then sweeten with honey to taste so that it does not lose its flavour.
Ready! Enjoy!
